Read a poem about the Lotus Garden
Each year many Hunter High School students volunteer their time at the Lotus Garden helping at our yearly Halloween Party as well as Spring and Fall clean up days. Inspired by her time at the garden, student Sophia Kschwendt wrote a poem, and even won the Scholastic Silver Key Award for it. Thank you Sophia !
The Lotus Garden
by Sophia Kschwendt
In NYC I believe
That silence is very hard to achieve It hides behind the honking cars As distant as the farthest stars
Yet high above the rumbling road Is an exquisite escape Overgrown
And unmowed
Two fish swim And roses thrive The ivy climbs up To busy bee hives
The garden itself is itty-bitty But it’s my favorite place in the city
